City Socializes Impact of Excessive Groundwater Use

To minimize excessive use of groundwater in the capital, Jakarta Provincial Government along with PD PAM Jaya and Palyja is holding socialization about environmental conservation and groundwater, Monday (6/12) on the 22nd floor of Block F building, City Hall.

It aims to switch to the use of piped water

Jakarta Environment Dept. Vice Head, Ali Maulana Hakim said, all this time, violation of groundwater use is quite high. Besides illegal groundwater well construction, other modes that are done are corruption of use, such as one building uses 10 arteses but the actor admits only six.

Groundwater Use must Be Supervised Tightly

"KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) also ask us to instruct Industry and Energy Dept., as well as Water Resources Dept. and Inspectorate to handle cases of theft and illegal levies (pungli) on groundwater suctioning. That's why we warn from the beginning," he exclaimed.

He asserted the case must be handled seriously.

PD PAM Jaya President Director, Erlan Hidayat added his side tries to reduce groundwater use by increasing piped water supply to some areas, especially areas that have skyscrapers such as Kuningan, Sudirman and Gatot Subroto.

"It aims to switch to the use of piped water," he closed.
